Power Density and Management
Traditional Data Centers Traditional Data Centers
Power Density and Management
Walk into a traditional data center to install your equipment and you’ll likely just find receptacles on the floor waiting for you to plug in. If you’re lucky - they will be labeled, so you know which is A and which is B. In most cases, you’ll be limited to between 5 - 8kW of power per cabinet, or in exceptionally built facilities, maybe 15kW. Having visibility over, much less management of your power services is uncommon.
Key Points
- - Basic N+1 Configuration Common
- - Limited Visibility
- - PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) 2.0 or Greater
- - Extremely Limited Power Density
- - 4kW- 12kW or 200w/SqFt - 500w/SqFt Power Density

Data Center Environment
Spending time in a traditional data center is not a pleasant prospect. From varying temperatures to poor cell signals, it’s generally the last place you want to be when troubleshooting an issue or installing new hardware. In addition, exposed server racks produce considerable noise and often require visitors to wear ear protection.
Key Points
- - Noise From Exposed Server Racks
- - Wild Temperature Variation
- - Cramped Working Environments
- - Non-Hospitable

Temperature Control & Cooling
Traditional Data Centers Traditional Data Centers
Temperature Control
If you’ve spent any time in traditional data centers, the inefficiencies are apparent. Cooling cavernous halls with endless amount of cold air simply isn’t efficient. What’s worse is your hosted IT gear is still subject to “hot spots” and drastic temperature variation even within your own rack. All of that waste and inefficiency adds up to higher costs for you.
Key Points
- - Inefficient Cooling Method
- - Wasted Energy
- - “Hot Spots” and Unpredictable Cooling
- - Higher Costs for Services
ScaleMatrix Data Centers ScaleMatrix Smart Temperature Control
Smart Temperature Control
ScaleMatrix cutting edge design makes us a staggering 30% more efficient than traditional data centers. No matter what equipment is running in your cabinet, we’re keeping a close eye and delivering just the right amount of air at just the right temperature, 24/7/365. We’ve eliminated “hot spots”, improved efficiency, lowered costs, and your equipment will last you longer because of the clean air and stable temperature management.
Key Points
- - Temperature Management (+/- 3 degrees)
- - Better Pricing
- - No “Hot Spots”
- - Longer Equipment Life
Risk Mitigation
Traditional Data Centers Traditional Data Centers
Exposed Rack Design
With traditional rack designs in multi-tenant data centers, you are at greater risk of outages due to exposed hardware and shared cooling and fire suppression systems. Additionally, this design means that your hardware is constantly exposed to air particulates which causes zinc whiskers, dust buildup, and equipment failure.
Key Points
- - Increased Risk of Outages
- - Exposed Equipment In Multi-Tenant Center
- - Poor Air Quality
- - Fire Suppression Zone Shutdowns
- - MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) >2 Hours After Fire or Incident
- - Impact Zone for Fire of Cooling Issue - 50 Cabinets+
ScaleMatrix Data Centers ScaleMatrix Enclosed Cabinet Design
Enclosed Cabinet Design
With our revolutionary cabinet design, we’ve been able to mitigate a number of key problem areas and bring the risk of a data center outage down to a single cabinet. Fire detection and suppression is now localize to an individual cabinet - reducing risk and making issue resolution much simpler to manage. In-cabinet air filtration eliminate particulate, creating a pristine environment from which your servers can operate. The air-tight and water-tight cabinets help extend the life of your hardware while providing unmatched security.
Key Points
- - Risk Mitigation
- - Problem Localization
- - NEMA3 Air-Tight, Water-tight Seal
- - Individual Fire Suppression Zones
- - MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) <15 Minutes After Fire or Incident
- - Impact Zone for Fire of Cooling Issue - 1 Cabinet
- - Air Filtration System
Data Center Security
Traditional Data Centers Traditional Data Centers
Security
Data security and malicious attempts on your hardware are a bigger concern with traditional facilities. Exposed wiring alone means your hardware is at risk of malicious or accidental disconnects caused by others in your facility. How protected is your data from physical and digital attacks?
Key Points
- - Exposed Wiring
- - Inconsistent Security Protocols
- - Digital and Physical Attack Risks

Customer Experience
Traditional Data Centers Traditional Data Centers
NOC Design and Support Philosophy
Traditional facility design hides NOC teams far away from the data center floor, in an effort to keep them away from the noise and cold. Separated from the action, these teams are forced to try and keep an eye on the data center from a limited number of cameras. In this mode, their service can best be categorized as reactive. Traditional hosting models may require a charge per occurrence for any assistance needed by the onsite NOC team. All of these issues add up to a less than ideal experience for clients using these legacy services.
Key Points
- - Inaccessible NOC
- - Costs-Per-Call Service Models
- - Limited Client Portal Features
- - Only SSAE Reports Provided for Audits and Compliance
- - Inconsistent Client Support Experience
